Raising the Bar
Through over 20 years of effective collaboration, the Tift County Commission on Children & Youth has served as the lead agency in working to make Tift County a better place for children and their families. Intensive, broad-based sgtrategic planning with community leaders, service providers, community representatives, youth and other Commission partners has allowed us to work together as a community to achieve results for the well being of children and their families.
Teen Maze to Promote Healthy and Productive Lifestyles of Tift County Youth
Tift County Commission on Children & Youth teams up with Tift Regional Medical Center and Tift County Schools to bring the Teen Maze to all ninth grade students in Tift County. Other major sponsors whose contributions make this event possible are Wal Mart, Irwin County EMC Foundation, and the Tift County Council on Child Abuse. Many collaborative partners volunteer time and resources to help make this event a successful and meaningful event for the students. Without the dedication and participation of all community partners, who spend hours planning and implementing, this event would not be possible.
The focus throughtout the event is to remain abstinent and succeed in school. This event helps to increase graduation rates, and to reduce teen pregnancy, incidences of STDs and underage drinking as well as to reinforce the importance of making good decisions.
While we hope to generate enough funds between now and the beginning of next school year to ensure that we are able to make the Teen Maze a success we do seek donations to ensure that we are able to provide all the necessities to make this a quality and effective event. The total amount needed will depend on the number of students served from year to year. Past years have had from 625 to 675 students participate. It costs in excess of $10 per student to provide a quality Teen Maze. Funding sources vary from year to year and come from a number of small grants and tax-deductible donations from members of the community.
If you would like to volunteer time, provide resources or make donations to the event contact the Tift County Commission on Children & Youth, 418 N. Ridge Avenue, Tifton, GA 31794. For additional information on the Teen Maze, call 229-388-1000, email email@example.com.
