The Tift County Commission on Children and Youth illuminated the streets of Tift County last month with luminaries as part of its eighth annual Go Light Up Your World event.

Our Vision was that luminaries would be lit all over the county at the same time to show how unified we are as a community in our effort to ensure that children and youth have a safe  and caring environment,” said Tift County Commission on Children and Youth Executive Director Lillie McEntyre. Its important that, as a community, we all come together and support our children and youth, not just on this day, but everyday. This day, though, is the day we can join together and show that support in a visible way.”

More than 125 sites, including youth groups, churches and various organizations joined together to participate in the event, placing candles in paper bags to show support for the youth and children of Tift County, along with their commitment to providing them with healthy and productive lifestyles.

Our hope, said McEntyre, is that throughout the year our community will provide programs and opportunities that will encourage involvement in positive activities.”
